While some signals that a peace deal between the U.S. and Iran may finally be close at hand have started to appear, the security situation set off by the U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran in February 2026 continues to limit airlines’ ability to fly into the Middle East.
Major airlines such as Delta, American Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and KLM have all collectively canceled hundreds of routes to a dozen Middle Eastern cities throughout the summer while American Airlines has now delayed the restart of two high-profile routes to Doha and Tel Aviv until 2027.
“Despite recent reporting about the situation in the Middle East, the current circumstances in the region still bring uncertainties,” Dutch flag carrier KLM states on its website with regard to suspended flights to Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam.
Ryanair delays restart of 17 flights to Jordan until October 2026
The largest airline on the European continent by total flights and passengers carried, Dublin-based low-cost carrier Ryanair has now become the latest airline to announce yet another pushback for restarting 17 of its routes to the Jordanian capital of Amman.
As first reported by aviation news outlet Simple Flying, the flights were initially slated to start running on July 3 but are now no longer visible on flight-tracking data until October 2026.

The flights that Ryanair initially planned to run to Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) in Amman included a thrice-a-week route from Vienna, twice-weekly flights from Paris, Bergamo, Bolonga, Brussels and Karków among other cities as well as a weekly flight from Madrid.
Prior to the Iran war, Ryanair has set in sights on Jordan for its expansion plans after running its first flight to Amman from Cyprus in February 2018. According to flight-tracking data dug up by Simple Flying, 2,767 Ryanair departures to Jordan have been recorded in the last eight years.
Fellow low-cost competitor Wizz Air is also not running its summer schedule to Amman from cities such as London and Budapest until September 2026 at the earliest; given the highly volatile situation in the region, these are above all placeholder restart dates that could once again be pushed back if the security situation does not stabilize.
Ryanair’s service to Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv has been permanently cut after an initial suspension following the October 2023 Hamas attack.
