Easter Sunday is here, and whether your holiday includes an Easter Egg hunt or brunch, or you just need to get some errands done, you might have a Target Run on your to-do list.
But given that Easter is a major holiday in the U.S. — the stock market is even closed on the Friday before — many restaurants and retailers give employees the day off.
Major retailers like Costco, Lowe’s and Aldi count Easter Sunday as one of the few days they’re closed each year.
But how about Target, the store that is a one-stop shop for many American consumers?
Target is closed on Easter Sunday 2026
According to Target, all stores will be closed on April 5, 2026, so team members can spend the holiday with family, according to the company website.
Like most major retailers, Target adjusts its schedule around key holidays. Closing on Easter Sunday is common these days. Other major retailers, including Costco, Sam’s Club and Aldi also give their employees the day off.

Target sales have been down
Easter is a critical time for retailers like Target, as demand for food, candy, and holiday decor typically boosts sales during an otherwise slow time of year.
Target has reported multiple consecutive quarters of declining revenue, including a recent period where sales fell about 1.5% to $30.45 billion, reflecting weaker discretionary spending and lower store traffic, according Reuters.com.
Executives also acknowledged that a consumer boycott tied to its rollback of diversity initiatives weighed on performance, adding further pressure during key shopping periods.

In response, Target is pushing a turnaround strategy that includes $5 billion in investments, expanded promotions, and price cuts on thousands of items. All of these moves are aimed at attracting budget-conscious shoppers during holidays like Easter, when value and convenience are especially important.
“While economic uncertainty remains on the minds of many, consumers are still focused on holiday celebrations like Easter,” Chief Economist and Executive Director of Research at the National Retail Federation Mark Mathews said. “Holidays provide an important opportunity for families to reconnect and create lasting memories, even as economic conditions fluctuate.”
As for Target, seasonal demand could help lift short-term results, but the company is still working to reverse five straight quarters of revenue declines and regain momentum against larger rivals.
